Mughal Jade Dagger

  • Dated: circa 1700 with a jade-mounted scabbard dated the 19th century
  • Culture: Indian, Mughal
  • Medium: steel, jade, wood, velvet

The slightly curved watered-steel blade has a central ridge and double grooves, gold-overlaid palmette and a cartouche at forte. The jade hilt feature scroll quillons and carved stylised lotus leaf while the pommel has the form of a lion’s head with gold inlay set with red spinels. Presented in its velvet-covered wood scabbard with carved jade chape and a lock.
